Highlights:
Helambu or Helmu is the name of a region at the northern end of the Melamchi Khola valley. The Helambu trek starts from Sundarijal, a small Dam and hydroelectric station in the north east corner of the Kathmandu Valley. More precisely, it begins west of Sundarijal at the end of the auto road. Our trek starts from Sundarijal, We then continue ascend to Chisopani where we spend first night just outside valley. Chisopani offer great view of mountain and landscape. Then we make almost a circle going through Kutumsang, Tharepati, Tarkeghyang, sarmathang and finally to Melamchi pul.The valley is dominated by the 7,246 meter Langtang Lirung to the north, Gang Chhenpo (6,388 meters) to the south and Dorje Lhakpa (6,975 meters) to the east. As the trek nears the end at Dhunche we pass through the rice fields, rhododendrons and pine forests, which have numerous birds. |
